December weather colder and drier than normal in Castlegar
As we head into another deep freeze, Southeast Fire Centre Weather Services is looking back at last month's weather.
Weather Specialist Ron Lakeman says December in Castlegar was colder and drier than an average December.
The mean monthly temperature was 1.8 degrees colder than normal.
The monthly snowfall was actually greater than normal, but when combined with minor rainfall, the total amount of precipitation was 68 percent of normal.
The coldest temperature during the month, and a new record minimum temperature for December 17th was set when we went down to minus 15.8 degrees.
The heaviest amount of snow in Castlegar was 21 cm's during the night of the 26th.
