IH seeing more hip fractures around the region

With the snow and ice we've experiencing around the region over the past couple of weeks, Interior Health is seeing a spike in hip fractures.

IH Acute Health Services Director Jane Cusden says slips, trips and falls are the leading cause for injury of patients, especially elderly ones, and while falls can happen anywhere, the snow and slippery sidewalks are leading to more incidents.

She's encouraging residents to take care while walking on snowy or icy roads, wear good winter boots, consider spikes, and a cane with a spike.
