Kettle River Watershed Authority Coordinator says there are big drought concerns
The Coordinator of the Kettle River Watershed Authority says the situation is dire when it comes to the Kettle, West Kettle and Granby Rivers, which are all below critical flow levels due to the hot dry weather over the summer.
Jessica Mace says the low flows are a concern for the aquatic ecosystem, they can also be a health and safety concern because she's heard some wells are drying up.
The province issued a level 4 drought for the watershed late last week.
Meanwhile Mace says the province sent out a letter this week for non domestic users who have surface water licenses in the area to voluntarily reduce their use by 100-percent.
She says the good news is if people cut back they'll see a response in the river flows.
