More fires around the Southeast Fire Centre
When it comes to fires, there are now 42 active ones in the Southeast Fire Centre, including 17 new ones sparked by lightning overnight Monday.
None of the new fires are currently threatening any communities or structures.
There were three small lightening caused fires in the Ladybird Creek area on Monday, northwest of Castlegar, as of last night one was already out, another was under control and the 3rd was being held.
Five lightning-caused fires started in the Granby area yesterday.
Four of them cover less than a hectare each, while the largest - the Bluejoint fire- covers about 30 hectares.
That blaze is just south of the border of Granby Park and about 60 kilometres northeast of Grand Forks. Ground crews are fighting the fires with the aid of airtankers and helicopters.
