More residents with jobs year over year in the Kootenays

There are some real positives with the latest jobless numbers in the Kootenays.

In February there were 54-hundred people looking for work, an unemployment rate of 6.7 percent, compared to 7.6 percent in February last year, although the number of job seekers was identical.

Here's where the good news comes in...the number of people employed around the region has bone up by 9-thousand year to year, with 75 thousand people around the region with jobs.

The Labour force is also up by 9-thousand.

According to Stats Canada, the largest job increases came in Accommodation and food services, followed by manufacturing, natural resources, and public administration.

Nationally, Canada's unemployment rate dropped to its lowest level in more than two years last month with 15,000 jobs added 
    Statistics Canada says the unemployment rate fell by 0.2 percentage points to 6.6 per cent in February, matching the January 2015 rate.
