More seats being added to Selkirk Health Care Assistant Program in September

A shortage of Health Care Assistants in the West Kootenay Boundary, prompted Selkirk College to apply to the province for more seats in the program.

They've now received one time funding of 158-thousand dollars, to support an additional 18 full time equivalent seats in the 6 month program, for a total of 38 seats.

Teresa Petrick is the School Chair of Health and Human Programs.

She says they applied for additional funding, because of an identified need from their practice partners in IHA and private institutions about a shortage around the region.

They're finding that graduates are being offered work before they even finish the program.

Petrick says they're accepting applications for the program now.
