Nelson Council approves final changes to new garbage and recycling program

Nelson City Council approved the final changes to the new garbage and recycling program yesterday.

The City heard numerous concerns from residents about putting out garbage bags without being inside a bin.

Mayor Deb Kozak says council has listened to those concerns.

They're asking people where possible just to put bags on the street, but if that's not possible, then make sure bags are the proper weight, size, and that they're easily removed from the garbage can, so workers can lift the bags out.

The original amendments were developed as a means of protecting the safety of employees who have experienced injuries during the collection of garbage and recycling.
