Nelson Council Medical Marijuana Dispensaries regulations approved

Nelson City Council will be regulating Medical Marijuana Dispensaries in the city until the Federal Government sets out its regulations which are expected by the summer.

There are currently 6 dispensaries in Nelson that will be required to purchase a business license and pay a fee of $5000.

The regulations were approved at last night's council meeting after a public hearing where about 10 people spoke for and against the regulations.

Mayor Deb Kozak feels that providing clarity for the community and dispensary owners is a positive move ensuring there's rules in place, and that businesses are located in the right spot and work well within the community confines.

Councillors Bob Adams and Janice Morrison voted against the regulations.
