New multi-million dollar Emergency Department on the way for Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital

Health Minister Terry Lake was in Trail yesterday to announce over 16.6 million dollars in upgrades for the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for a new emergency department.

Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital District Board Chair Aimee Watson says the project has been on their radar for a number of years, and they're happy to see provincial funding come through.

The emergency department expansion Plans include a single-story addition to the existing building that is anticipated to triple the size of the current emergency department. 

Jeff Hussey is the Chief of Emergency at KBRH.

He says the hospital has grown far beyond the initial intention from when it was first built..and instead of making small fixes, this way they'll be able to design it from the ground up.

It's estimated Construction will start in the summer of 2018.
