"Step Into The Light" walks this weekend for new mothers mental health
There are several events tomorrow around the region to raise awareness and support for new mothers mental health.
Shared Care Project Manager for the Kootenay Boundary division of Family Practice Mona Mattei says becoming a mother is often viewed as one of the happiest times of life, yet 16 percent of new moms face struggles with post postpartum depression.
Over the past year and a half a regional committee has been addressing some of the gaps in services and resources for moms across the Kootenay Boundary, working with physicians, community organizations and key mental health services.
The "Step into the Light" Walk for women's health is coming up tomorrow at 10:30 for moms and families, in Castlegar at Millennium Park at the Pavilion, in Nelson at the Rotary Gazebo in Lakeside Park, and at City Park in Grand Forks.
