Transmission work starting next month in Arrow Lakes area

BC Hydro is taking on a big project in the Nakusp, New Denver, Silverton and Arrow Lakes area.

They're going to be doing transmission line work starting next month, to improve the safety and reliability of the line operation.

Stakeholder Engagement Advisor Mary Anne Coules says the line is reaching it's end of life, so work will include replacing and upgrading the structures, cross arms, hardware and conductor components, bringing the line back up to standards.

They'll also be completing right of way vegetation clearing and brushing, which should lead to fewer downed trees, minimizing outages.

Meanwhile the work will mean 36 to 48 hours of planned outages this year.

They're working with local government to decide the best time for outages.
