Cardi B Wins 2 BET Awards


Cardi B was among the winners Sunday night at the BET Awards, winning best female hip-hop artist and album of the year (for Invasion of Privacy).

"The numbers don't lie. Three times platinum," Cardi boasted in her acceptance speech. "I'm glad I made an album your sister, your mother, your grandmother like it."

Best male hip-hop artist went to the late Nipsey Hussle, who was also honoured for his humanitarian efforts. DJ Khaled, YG and John Legend performed a tribute to the rapper, who was shot to death in L.A. in March.

Beyoncé was named best female R&B/pop artist and Bruno Mars won best male. Best group was Migos.

The award for Best Collaboration went to “Sicko Mode” by Travis Scott ft. Drake. Karena Evans, who directed videos for tracks on Drake’s Scorpion album, was named video director of the year.

Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” was named Video of the Year; Ella Mai’s “Trip” was voted the winner of the viewers’ choice award; and “Hard Place” by H.E.R. won the BET HET award.

Performers during the show included Cardi B with husband Offset, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, and Mary J. Blige.
