Justin Bieber Blamed For Icelandic Canyon Damage
Justin Bieber has been blamed for environmental damage that has forced the closure of a beautiful canyon in Iceland.
The country’s Environmental Agency is shutting down public access to Fjaðrárgljúfur until at least June due to an increase in traffic since the Canadian pop star featured the canyon in his 2015 video “I’ll Show You.”
“This canyon was somewhat unknown,” agency spokesperson Daníel Freyr Jónsson told RUV. “The great increase in foot traffic began after Bieber came.” The number of visitors to the canyon reportedly jumped from 150,000 in 2017 to 282,000 last year.
Bieber’s video has been viewed more than 440 million times.
Tourism agency Visit Iceland told CNN Travel it’s not fair to blame the Biebs. Spokesperson Inga Hlin Palsdottir said Fjaðrárgljúfur is “just a natural wonder that wasn’t meant to be that popular.”
The same could be said about Bieber.
