Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara Pay Tribute To Elvis
Canada’s Shawn Mendes and Alessia Cara are among the artists paying tribute to Elvis Presley in a TV special airing next month.
Mendes moves his hips to sing “Hound Dog,” the Willie Mae Thornton song Presley covered in 1956, during the two-hour Elvis All-Star Tribute. Cara takes on “Love Me Tender,” the ballad recorded by the King for the 1956 movie of the same name.
Mendes returns at the end of the show for “If I Can Dream” with Carrie Underwood, Post Malone, Darius Rucker and Blake Shelton – as well as the voice of Presley.
Other stars performing Elvis classics include Ed Sheeran (“Can’t Help Falling in Love”), Jennifer Lopez (“Heartbreak Hotel”), John Legend (“A Little Less Conversation”), and Adam Lambert (“Blue Suede Shoes”).
Keith Urban does “Burning Love” and then teams up with Post Malone on “Baby, What You Want Me to Do.”
Also appearing are John Fogerty, Kelsea Ballerini, Mac Davis, Little Big Town, Pistol Annies, Dierks Bentley, and Josh Groban.
The performances were taped over two nights last October on a L.A. soundstage that was made to recreate Presley’s ’68 Comeback Special.
Presley died in 1977 at the age of 42.
Elvis All-Star Tribute airs Feb. 17 at 9pm on NBC.
