4 skiers caught up in Avalanche on Mount Kirkup, near Red Resort yesterday
Injuries were non life threatening in an avalanche on Mount Kirkup, near Red Resort yesterday afternoon.
4 skiers got caught up in the avalanche, with two partially buried.
One skier was able to dig himself out.
With help from the other two, they were able to help the other skier.
He couldn't be moved because of injuries, so two of the group skied out to bring help from Red Mountain Ski Patrol.
Rossland Search and Rescue was also called to help ski patrol get the injured skier off the mountain.
Meanwhile Avalanche Forecaster Diana Sally says they're expecting the avalanche danger to increase with the new snow.
The main concern is the new load with storm slab instability, and they're expecting deeper and more sensitive deposits in wind loaded terrain.
She says there's also a concern about a persistent weak layer in the snowpack.
