Affordable housing development closer to reality in Nelson
Affordable housing is a big need in Nelson and a new apartment building will help ease the shortage for some.
Council has approved a zoning amendment and a few variances for a development at 805 Nelson Avenue.
The Nelson Cares Society has been working on the project for years.
Executive Director Jenny Robinson says the community is desperate for new housing, and 42 new units for seniors and those with disabilities will go a long way.
She says right now they have over 120 people on their wait list so they could fill three of those buildings today.
A new seniors’ services and resource support centre is also part of the development.
A public hearing will be held before final approval.
