Castlegar getting funding for their Emergency Operations Centre
The City of Castlegar has received a 25-thousand dollar Emergency Preparedness Fund grant.
The funding, for their emergency Operations Centre in the fire hall, will improve the city's ability to coordinate emergency or disaster response with other municipalities, government agencies and industry.
The grant will fund 1-hundred percent of the project costs to purchase and install more advanced communications equipment in the EOC, which Mayor Bruno Tassone says is critical during disasters like forest fires, floods, or hazardous material spills.
The project will also allow stakeholders to work better together to help people with evacuation and access to shelter, clean water and food in the case of disaster.
It will also help support all major industries and agencies in the City's response area.
