CBT providing financial boost for program to help residents, farmers, and farmers markets

The CBT Director of Special Initiatives is calling it a win win for Basin residents, farmers, and farmers markets.

The CBT is providing 100-thousand dollars in funding for the BC Association of Farmer's Markets Nutrition Coupon Program, which provides coupons to lower income families, seniors, and pregnant women, participating in food literacy programs delivered by a number community organizations.

Kindy Gosal says the partnership directly supports their agriculture strategic priority...strengthening the local food system, and contributing to the well being of basin residents.

The support will reduce waiting lists for markets in Creston, Kaslo, Nakusp, and Nelson, as well as allowing markets in Trail and Rossland to join the program in 2018.

In total it will help feed 225 more basin families.

To become a coupon recipient, residents can contact one of the participating community partner organizations.
