Centuries old cedar one of two trees cut near Cottonwood Lake Park

A police investigation has been initiated after two cedars, one centuries old were cut down near Cottonwood Lake Regional Park.

The trees were located on private land owned by Nelson Lands Corporation (NLC) that the RDCK has purchased to extend the existing Cottonwood Lake Regional Park.

The RDCK doesn't take ownership of the land until the beginning of July.

The RDCK is installing signs indicating that the land is private property, and is also installing a gate to prevent further access to that portion of the property.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nelson RCMP.
