Crime spree from Nakusp to Castlegar leads to arrest of a 26 year old man

RCMP unit's from around the region were called into action Tuesday, with a crime spree that started in Nakusp and ended in Castlegar.

RCMP responded to a complaint of an erratic driver at 8 in the morning.

When police stopped to speak to the driver of what turned out to be a stolen vehicle, the driver put the car in reverse and rammed the police car several times before fleeing.

A short time later, the vehicle rear ended a truck near Enterprise Creek, being driven by a local woman, when the woman pulled over, the man stole her truck leaving her on the side of the road.

That truck was abandoned in Slocan City, and a school district dump truck was stolen.

A member of the West Kootenay Traffic Services located and attempted to pull it over.

Another traffic member, coming in the opposite direction, was forced off the road by the oncoming dump truck.

The truck was located abandoned on a private property in Krestova, where another truck was stolen, heading towards Castlegar on Pass Creek Road.

RCMP used a spike belt to stop it, and after a brief foot chase the suspect was taken into custody.

The 26 year old man is facing numerous charges.

Police say he also has outstanding charges in the Okanagan.

Fortunately no officers were injured, but the driver of the first stolen truck suffered minor injuries.

Witnesses are asked to call RCMP.
