Downtown Revitalization Project underway in Nakusp
It's been a long time in the making, but the Village of Nakusp has started the first phase of their Downtown Revitalization Project.
Mayor Karen Hamling says there has been a lot of public consultation, with the community's vision for the plan the beautification of Nakusp's main street, and creating a pedestrian friendly downtown.
In the first phase, three blocks are going to be done from 2nd Avenue to 5th Avenue on Broadway Street, because they have the highest density and business overall.
Work will include new coloured pavement, and tiles, bump outs to slow traffic and make it safer for pedestrians, benches and greenery.
The first part of the project is expected to be complete by the end of November.
Hamling says funding for the approximately 980-thousand dollar project is coming from a number of sources including Legacy Funding from the Nakusp and Area Community Forest, Gas Tax money and the Columbia Basin Trust.
