Energy and Mines Ministers Conference coming to Kootenays

Energy Ministers from across the country will be gathering in Cranbrook next week, as part of the Energy and Mines Ministers Conference.

Nelson Creston MLA and BC Minister of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources Michelle Mungall will host the event, the first time it's been hosted in the Kootenays.

During the conference, Energy Ministers will share their knowledge and see presentations on the future of Canada's energy and mining sectors.

She says historically there's been a debate pitting the environment and indigenous rights against economic development, but she says that's not where the 21st century is at, and the conference is about positioning Canada for the 21st century.

She says the Ktunaxa nation will play an important role as host and partners in the conference.

Meanwhile Mungall says  says it's important ministers meet annually, to make sure that Canada on a whole is competitive on a global scale in the energy and mining sectors.
