Evacuation Alert for 16 homes in 6 Mile area near Nelson after a mudslide
16 homes in the 6 Mile area, near Nelson, have been placed on evacuation alert after a mudslide off the Middle Road, near Heddle Road.
Fortunately there were no injuries, and no significant damage to properties due to the slide.
The homeowners have been notified and given safety advice by the North Shore Fire Department.
The RDCK coordinated an initial geotechnical assessment by helicopter of the area yesterday, and will re-assess the situation today.
Meanwhile the RDKB is also preparing for potential floods.
The Emergency Operations Centre in Grand Forks was activated to Level 1 on Friday.
RDKB staff and municipal partners met to make sure local government is prepared to respond to possible flooding in the coming weeks, and the EOC will activate to Level 2 if necessary.
There is a high streamflow advisory for the, Boundary, and Kootenays.
