A debris flood over the weekend between Nelson and Balfour, has led to an evacuation alert for 30 properties in the area.

The incident happened at 10 Mile, in the Morley Creek area, between Sitkum Creek and Kokanee Creek.

The Emergency Operations Centre has been activated, and Director Chris Johnson says the evacuation alert has been issued as a precaution for properties in the area due to the risk of further debris movement.

The RDCK is working with the province to assess the situation.

Crews were able to restore Highway 3A to two lane traffic last night.

Meanwhile water access has been affected for water license holders in the area.
