Fire behind the hospital in Trail Tuesday believed to be human caused
The interface fire behind Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail is still under investigation, but officials suspect it's human caused.
Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue and BC Wildfire Service spent the day yesterday falling dangerous trees, and assessing slope stability along with investigating the cause with RCMP.
Meanwhile the Regional fire Chief and Liaison officer for the RDKB Emergency Operations Centre is praising the multi agency cooperation.
Dan Derby says a short time after the blaze started they saw ten very distinct agencies and multiple levels of government work as one team...that included the RDKB, the City of Trail, Interior Health, the BC Ambulance Service, BC Transit, the RCMP, Rossland Search and Rescue, and the Kootenay Columbia School District.
There were transit buses and ambulances on standby in case patients had to be moved from KBRH, the high school was evacuated, search and rescue made sure there were no hikers on the trails above the fire, and the Trail Memorial Centre was readied to receive potential evacuees.
Fortunately crews were able to get the fire under control quickly.
