Fire danger rating heating up, as long weekend approaches

The fire danger rating is heating up around the region as we head into the long weekend.

The rating is now moderate to high and that has the Southeast Fire Centre urging caution with campfires.

Fire Information Officer Karlie Shaughnessy says human caused wildfires divert crucial resources away from naturally occurring fires.

Meanwhile personnel are still responding to 6 lightening caused fires in the Arrow and Kootenay Lake Fire District from Monday night, but none are threatening communities or structures.

All were under a hectare at last word.
