Fire in the Nelson area sends one man to hospital
One man was taken to hospital after a fire spread in the Nelson area early this morning
Nelson Fire rescue was called out to a tree on fire just south of the city boundary towards Salmo, and found that embers had spread the fire to multiple objects, including two travel trailers, a boat, a shed and surrounding trees.
Fortunately crews were able to stop the spread of the fast moving fire, damage is estimated at 40-thousand dollars.
As there are no hydrants in the area the call was made for mutual aid from Beasley, Blewett, and the North Shore Fire Departments to provide water shuttle support.
Additionally, a release says members working around the trailers observed a large quantity of discarded needles.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Nelson RCMP and Nelson Fire Rescue.
Officials say it appears to have originated in or around one of the trailers and spread to other structures.
Meanwhile one trailer occupant in the area suffered second degree burns to his arm and respiratory tract as well as smoke inhalation.
