Interior Health Report on Drinking Water Supply released

A report on the drinking water supply around Interior Health has now been released.

The report, compiled over a decade included all the water systems in the Interior, and in fact nearly half of the 4-thousand in the province are located within Interior Health.

Medical Health Officer Kamran Golmohammadi says the report looked at a variety of public health concerns related to drinking water, including public advisories issued as a result of elevated risk of water-borne illnesses.

He says while advisories can help, they're not enough to keep people safe, and there are significant potential risks in the long term.

He says the report should be viewed as an opportunity to spark conversation between stakeholders and members of the community, to work towards a common goal: access to clean, safe, and reliable tap water for all people at all times.

Among the report's recommendations is a more collaborative engagement process with water operators and First Nations communities.
