Jobless rate down in the Kootenays

The jobless rate was down in the Kootenays in April.

Last month there were 38-hundred people looking for work, a rate of 5.4 percent, compared with 7.4 percent a year ago and 2-thousand more people job hunting.

There aren't more jobs this year though.

According to Statistics Canada, the number of people working dropped from 73, 500 last year to 66, 700 in April ...similar to a drop in the number of people in the work force.

  Nationally Statistics Canada is reporting the loss of 11-hundred jobs last month.

The unemployment rate held steady at 5.8 per cent for a third-straight month.
