Jobless rate in the Kootenays down in August compared to 2018

The Jobless rate in the Kootenays was down year over year.

In August, there were 45-hundred residents looking for work for a rate of 6 percent.

Last year at the same time the rate was 7.3 percent, with 13-hundred more residents job hunting.

On the downside there were 35-hundred more people with jobs last year around the region, with fewer people in the labour force this year.

Nationally  Canada's economy posted a job surge last month of 81,100 net new positions, the bulk of which were part time.

   
Even with the increase the August unemployment rate stayed at 5.7 per cent , near a four-decade low, as more people looked for work.
