Jobless rate in the Kootenays down in October

The unemployment rate was down in the Kootenays Last month.

In October there were 56-hundred people looking for work, a rate of 7.5 percent, down from 8.9 percent a year ago, when there were over a thousand more people job hunting.

There were over 1-thousand more people with jobs this October over last, and the population was up slightly, by about 500.

nationally a wave of job creation last month knocked the unemployment rate down to 5.9 per cent _ its lowest level in nearly a decade.

     Statistics Canada says the economy churned out another 79,500 net new jobs in November and drove the jobless rate down 0.4 percentage points from 6.3 per cent the month before.
