Kootenay Columbia MP Food Bill closer to reality
The Kootenay Columbia MP is one step closer to having his private members bill to establish a National Local Food Day passed.
This week in the House of commons, the 2nd reading of the bill received unanimous support.
It would designate the Friday before Thanksgiving of each year as National Local Food Day.
The next step for Stetski's bill will be review by the Agriculture committee, before it returns to the floor of the House and then the Senate.
Stetski says establishing a local Food Day would give Canadians an opportunity to recognize the hard work of local producers and harvesters, food manufacturers, and farmers' markets.
It would also raise awareness of the challenges many Canadians face in accessing healthy, affordable food close to home.
