There were 12 new fire starts around the southeast Fire Centre, due to the weekend weather.

Fire Information Officer Ashlene Aktarian says fortunately they're all small spot fires, mostly started by lightning, and most have been extinguished.

She says the rain has helped bring the fire danger rating to low for the most part around the region, although we're moving towards a drying and warming trend.

In our area, as of Monday, there were 3 fires, all said to be small, one south of Castlegar, another near Trail and one southwest of Salmo.
