Local Teachers Union happy Province is taking another look at education funding
The President of the Kootenay Columbia Teachers union is happy to see the province taking another look at education funding.
Andy Davidoff says they're setting up an independent panel to review the education funding formula and how education is funded in BC.
But he says there likely won't be any changes for the next school year.
He says it will probably be the next budget cycle before anything is changed.
According to Davidoff, BC Teachers welcome the additional funding the province announced in the budget speech, he says it's refreshing compared to all of the cuts in funding and downloading to local boards that we faced over the past 16 years under the Liberals.
Meanwhile the teachers union is encouraging the Kootenay Columbia School Board to work towards making sure underemployed teachers in the district are working full time.
He says it would help as a retention strategy to keep the teachers from leaving to find full time positions elsewhere.
