More access to MRI exams around the province, including Interior Health
Improved access to MRI exams appears to be helping in our region.
The province says they've surpassed their first year targets when it comes to MRI's, part of their Surgical and Diagnostic Imaging Strategy.
It's a multi year strategy to reduce waits and leverage solutions and capacity in the public health care system.
In the Interior Health Region, the number of MRI's was up over 31-percent year to year.
Province-wide the number was up 23 percent.
Officials say they were able to reach targets in part by running existing machines longer by adding evening, weekend and or stat holiday shifts to existing units.
The province is adding 15-thousand more MRI exams in the 2nd year of the strategy.
