Mount St. Francis motion at Nelson Council

A Nelson councillor would like to see Mount St. Francis lands used to build much needed healthcare facilities for the region.

Brittny Anderson brought forward a notice of motion recently directing staff to write a letter to the province for IHA to develop the lands.

She says the provincial goal is 84 long term care beds for 1-thousand seniors, and in the region we have 80 per-thousand, so the area is under served.

According to Anderson there's been a lot of discussion and planning in the works but no firm commitments.

This is a call to action to make sure they don't get forgotten, and to make sure council is being proactive when it comes to pursuing health care for the community.

The Mount St. Francis Lands are designated for health care services, but the facility has been shut down since 2005 and stands vacant.
