Nelson and Creston get new licensed in-home child care spaces

There are some new licensed in-home child care spaces being created around the region, through the province's new Childcare BC Start Up Grant Program.

In Creston there are 8 new spaces at Dani's Daycare, and in Nelson 8 new spaces at Little Tree Kinderhouse.

They're a part of 426 new licensed in- home child care spaces throughout the province.

Kootenay West MLA, and Minister of Children and Family Development Katrine Conroy says they're thrilled that so many unlicensed providers are pursuing licensing, and they're on track to exceed their initial space creation targets for the program.

Start-up grants provide up to $4,500 in funding to support child care providers to become licensed through their local health authority and can cover the costs of things like training or application fees and purchasing equipment for the child care facility.
