Nelson gearing up for Coldest Night of the Year Fundraiser
The Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser is coming up February 23rd.
It's a national event that sees people all across the country head out into the street to show their support for the homeless, hungry and hurting.
Stephanie Myer is the coordinator for the Nelson event.
Myer says they usually see between 3 and 4 hundred people out in Nelson, with money raised this year going towards Nelson Cares programming.
She says a recent report on homelessness shone a light on this issue, in Nelson and the surrounding area.
The money raised goes towards the Ready for Home program, that helps Nelson Cares tenants coming out of homelessness with life skills, connecting them to health, employment and income supports.
Residents can register as individuals or as part of a team, head to www.cnoy.org.
They're also looking for volunteers, team captains and donors.
