Officer involved shooting in Grand Forks Thursday afternoon

The Independent Investigations Office of BC has been called out to an officer involved shooting in Grand Forks.

Just before 3:30 yesterday, officers from Grand Forks were called to a report of a car being driven erratically.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in an industrial park near Donaldson drive and 75th avenue.

The driver allegedly attempted to evade police by ramming into several police vehicles.

In the course of the interaction with the driver, shots were fired by police.

The male driver suffered unknown injuries. He was transported to hospital in critical condition.

No police officer or any member of the public was injured.

As Grand Forks is currently under a flood alert, RCMP officers from throughout the province are already in the area to help.

Those officers will be able support the Grand Forks RCMP to ensure that day-to-day policing duties are not impacted by the incident.

Any witnesses are asked to contact the Independent Investigations office.
