Planning in full swing for Castlegar's Coldest Night of the Year Walkathon

Castlegar and District Community Services is gearing up for their 2nd annual Coldest Night of the Year Walkathon.

It's a national event and they'll be walking in solidarity with 100 cities participating, to raise money for charities that support homeless, hungry and vulnerable people in the community.

Zoe McKay is the director for the Castlegar event.

She says they don't have a consistent homelessness program at Castlegar Community Services.

According to Mckay, they need shelters for youth or women trying to flee abusive relationships, more mental health services, and staffed housing.

This year's event starts and ends at the United Church February 23rd.
