Police incident that shut down Highway 22 involves a suspicious death

More details are coming out about the police incident that shut down Highway 22 overnight Sunday just outside of the Genelle Flats, north of Trail.

RCMP are confirming that a body was located inside the trunk of a burnt out vehicle, left abandoned and set on fire over the weekend.

Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue responded to a report of a vehicle fire Sunday night.

The discovery caused a closure of the highway to permit investigators to process the scene...given the circumstances, the Southeast District Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation and are continuing to investigate along with the Trail RCMP.

The death is being treated as suspicious.

The vehicle is a grey 1999 Honda Civic, 4 door sedan.

Police are looking for information from the public, in particular anyone who was in the area over the weekend.
