Preliminary investigation complete into fatal crash on the Bombi Monday

Investigators have completed a preliminary investigation into the fatal crash on Highway 3 near the Bombi Pass Summit Monday.

Police have now confirmed that a westbound SUV crossed over the centre line and collided sideways into the front of a pick up truck.

Both women driving received non life threatening injuries.

Tragically, a 45 year old passenger in the SUV, a woman from Castlegar, and the 12 year old son of the driver from Salmo were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Highway 3 was closed for several hours.

Police say the road was icy in that location and is considered a contributing factor.

RCMP are still working with the Coroner to determine the cause of the collision.

Sergeant Chad Badry with West Kootenay Traffic says as we start to see warming temperatures during the day and freezing temperatures at night or in the shade, he's reminding residents to be cautious, and diligent, and to make sure their vehicles are still well equipped for winter.
