RDCK commits to 100 percent renewable energy by 2050
The Regional District of Central Kootenay has joined 7 other communities across Canada, including Nelson and Slocan, in making a commitment towards 100-percent renewable energy by 2050.
It's part of an initiative by the West Kootenay EcoSociety.
RDCK Sustainability Coordinator Paris Marshall Smith says they have a strong committee to reducing emissions, as well as supporting communities to have a healthy and economically strong future.
She says how they'll get to the targets is to be determined.
The commitment is to engage in exploration and discovery, and to offer leadership to local communities.
According to Marshall Smith, the path will become clearer as technology and funding becomes available.
