RDCK has declared a Climate Action Imperative
The Regional District of Central Kootenay has formally recognized the global and local state of climate crisis, declaring a Climate Action Imperative.
Silverton Director and Chair of the Community For Sustainable Living Advisory Committee Leah Main brought the motion forward.
She says they've also passed a motion for staff to report back on opportunities to build on work that's already been done.
The plan is to create a unified document highlighting the work.
She says it's not just saying the ship is sinking, they're saying they call on all levels of government in all communities to work together and change the course when it comes to climate change.
The RDCK says there's been an increase in impacts from climate change, including weather related events like fires floods, landslides and droughts affecting residents and communities, agricultural production and recreation.
