Replacement work to start next month on BC Hydro wooden debris boom

Work is expected to get under way next month, on the replacement of the existing wooden debris boom upstream from the Seven Mile Dam and Generating Station on the Pend d'Oreille River.

BC Hydro Community Relations Mary Anne Coules says the current debris boom is 23 years old and is deteriorating from wear and exposure.

The replacement one will be made out of steel, and have a longer life span, as well as improving public safety.

She  says they're not expecting any impact to the public, but there will be public benefits, with improved signage, markings and lighting.

Work is expected to start in mid October and be complete in January.
