Rossland couple awarded Good Neighbour Commendation Award
It's an incident that could have had tragic consequences, if not for the quick action of some neighbours.
A Rossland Couple, Shane Dixon and Leanne Cruickshank were awarded the City of Rossland's Good Neighbour Commendation Award this week.
Mayor Kathy Moore says it stems from a fire in lower Rossland in early February.
A couple and their two young kids were asleep in the single family home, when a fire started in the attic.
The neighbours were awake and saw the flames, they called 911 and woke the family to get them out of the house.
All three fire halls responded to the fire and kept it from spreading, so they were also invited to see the award handed out.
The Good Neighbour Commendation Award is a new initiative in the city.
