Selkirk College happy with child care budget announcement
Selkirk College says a recent budget announcements from the province when it comes to child care, is a good news story.
Taya Whitehead is an instructor in the Selkirk College Early Child Care and Education Program...she says while details haven't been released when it comes to how monies will be dispersed, it bodes well for children, families and communities.
Whitehead says they know that 136 million dollars has been allocated over 3 years to enhance quality of care.
She says it's expected to include new supports for training and development, bursaries for students, and a workforce development strategy.
It's also going to look at human resource needs and appropriate remuneration of early childhood educators.
She says they're hoping the investment will build on the accessibility plan the college is already working on, to increase the accessibility and the availability of Early Childhood Education training for students at Selkirk.
