Shambhala enforcement leads to impaired driving, and speeding charges


RCMP Traffic Services throughout Southeastern BC have been out doing enforcement over the past week, in response to the Shambhala Music Festival.

During the week leading up to the festival, police took 7 alcohol and 2 drug impaired drivers off the road, had 133 incidents related t speeding, including 26 vehicles who were speeding excessively which is more than 40 km's over the speed limit, as well as 178 other violations.

On the Monday and Tuesday following the event, police focused on impaired and fatigued drivers, and removed 3 alcohol and 15 drug impaired drivers from the road, and dealt with 272 other violations, everything from vehicle defects, to unlicensed drivers and uninsured vehicles.

West Kootenay Traffic Sergeant Chad Badry says many of the drivers caught up in the congestion, and not attending the festival, took a moment to thank police for doing the enhanced enforcement, which also included the deployment of Alexa's Bus.
