Solar project complete in Nakusp at Elementary and High School
The Arrow Lakes School District has just finished up a big solar project involving students.
Superintendent Terry Taylor says they received a Carbon Neutral Capital Grant for solar power installation, which involved 7 students from 2 high schools in the district working alongside a Solar Engineer, 2 District Carpenters, and an electrician.
They've now installed 231 solar panels in grids on Nakusp Elementary and Nakusp Secondary.
Taylor says the students learned a lot of skills during the project, including problem solving, and working as a team, critical and creative thinking, all 21st century learning skills they want for students in the district.
She says each school will also have monitors installed in their hallways so students in the school on a daily basis will be able to see what energy is being produced by the panels as part of ongoing learning.
