The smoke came back, and evacuation order downgraded near the Deer Creek Wildfire

A special air quality warning is in effect for a large swath of BC including our region, as significant wildfires in the southern and central interior continue to burn.
Environment Canada issued the air quality warning Sunday, adding that fires in Washington State were also sending plumes of smoke across the border.
Residents are reminded to stay in cool, well-ventilated areas if they have any kind of breathing difficulties or medical conditions aggravated by the smoke.

Over the weekend, the BC Wildfire Service said that the imminent danger due to the Deer Creek Wildfire near Castlegar has diminished.

The evacuation order close to the Deer Creek Wildfire was downgraded to an alert by the RDCK.

The order was previously in place for the area north from Renata Ferry Road on Broadwater Road and Deer Creek Forest Service Road ...the area south from Renata Ferry Road to Cayuse Creek is also still on alert.
